Frequently asked questions
- Is it really free?
- Yes. Up to 20 active galleries with unlimited photos and password protection, free forever — no credit card. We can do this because we never store your photos, so there's no storage cost to pass on. Pro ($3/month) adds unlimited galleries and removes the small "Powered by Filolio" badge.
- How private is my gallery?
- Very. Every gallery gets a randomly generated link — there is no pattern, no sequence, and no directory where galleries can be browsed or discovered. The link only exists in your inbox and your client's. Add a password and there is a second independent lock: even someone who somehow obtained the link sees only a password prompt. And because Filolio stores zero photo bytes — images load directly from your cloud provider's servers — there is nothing on our side to breach or leak. Your photos can only be accessed by someone who has both the link and the password you set.
- Are my photos uploaded or stored anywhere?
- No. Your photos stay in your own Google Drive or Dropbox folder. When a client opens your gallery, the images load directly from your cloud provider's servers — they never pass through ours. We only store gallery settings (title, a link to your folder, and any password you set).
- Does it work with Dropbox?
- Yes. Filolio works with both Google Drive and Dropbox. Share a folder from either one with a view link, paste it in, and you get the same polished, password-protected gallery — your photos stay in your account and load straight from your provider. Use whichever you already keep your work in.
- Do you access my Google or Dropbox account?
- No. We never ask you to sign in with Google or Dropbox and have no access to your account or any private files. The only setting needed is making your folder shareable with a view-only link — we never need edit access.
- What happens if I move or delete my folder?
- The gallery is a live window into your folder, so if you delete it or change its sharing back to private, the gallery will stop showing photos. Keep the folder shared and in place for as long as you want the gallery to work.
- Does the gallery update when I add photos?
- Yes. Add or remove photos in your Google Drive or Dropbox folder and the gallery reflects the change automatically within about a minute — no re-publishing.
- Do my clients need an account?
- No. Clients just open the link (and enter a password if you set one). No signup, no app to install.
- Can my clients download the photos?
- Yes. Clients can download individual photos or use download-all to grab the whole gallery at full resolution.
